Families of Stoke Lacy

This section of our research covers both nationally famous people related to past residents and more local families whose relatives still form an active part of our village community.

Not surprisingly perhaps all our famous residents once lived in The Old Rectory. Sons and daughters of the incumbent Rectors were comparatively well-educated and went off to make their mark on the world. Among our famous offspring we can name Fabian Stedman, who made his mark in the world of bell-ringing, Frederick Kempson, a prolific Herefordian architect in the Victorian era, Mathilda Betham, a poet, writer and early feminist and, of course, HFS Morgan, the founder of the world famous Morgan Motor Car Company.

Local families include: The Ayletts.
