Hot! Hot! Hot! The Hereford Fire Choir raise the roof!

Many thanks to Jon Watson and his wonderful Hereford Fire Choir for putting on such a lovely fund-raiser at St Peter and St Paul’s. A packed church listened (and sometimes impulsively joined in!) to a variety of joyful melodies both old and new. Something for everyone. And for me it was “You’ve got a friend in me” and “Go West”. Much tapping of feet – not always in time – and a fair bit of head bobbing was seen along the pews.

The Hereford choir was founded 25 years ago after the Sun Valley fire when two fire fighters lost their lives. Members of the fire service formed the choir in their memory to raise money for local charities. Gradually members of the public joined and the group is now one of the largest community choirs in Herefordshire. The Choir meet for practice on Wednesdays, 7.30pm at St. James Primary School, Hereford during school terms. New members are welcome when there is space. You don't have to be able to read music and no audition is required just a love of music, singing and laughter. You can contact the choir via their Facebook page. We are very grateful that they chose to help us on our last stretch of fundraising so that building work can begin.

Thanks to this glorious June weather we were able to enjoy refreshments in the Churchyard where it was marginally cooler than in the Church. After much chat and laughter, and once the choir were able to cool down, we headed back in for a wonderfully upbeat second half.

Go on – come back and give us another rendition of “Build Me Up Buttercup”! Great tune and your smiles lit the place up! Thanks again
