And we’re off!
We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been successful in our bid for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant! After countless meetings, phone calls, emails and meetings – we’ve only gone and done it! Huge thanks for must go to John who drove this bid and who worked ceaselessly to ensure its success.
We have been awarded the princely sum of £99,000 towards the repair of St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church with benefits for the whole community. Additionally, almost £40,000 has been raised from generous donations and now only a further £45,000 is required to preserve it for at least the next fifty years. All systems are go for the final fund-raising push with events this summer, autumn and winter!
“We Need You”! This is a community-wide project and we need your help now. To keep the grant we have to deliver on our side of the bargain. We are committed to;
1. Researching our village’s heritage and disseminating it to the rest of the world. So we need people prepared to research into our famous forbears – obviously the Morgan family but also the famous bell-ringing pioneer Fabian Stedman, our famous church architect Frederick Kempson and the feisty feminist Matilda Bentham. We also need someone to develop the Stoke Lacy Heritage website and maintain the content on a regular basis.
2. If you want some mental and physical exercise experience a taste of bell ringing with some of the oldest bells in Herefordshire in the church tower– you don’t have to be a church goer to be a bell ringer.
3. If you are more down to earth we have opportunities for you too! We have promised to develop a herb garden in the Churchyard to celebrate the village’s connection to herbs and horticulture. Can you dig? Would you like to offer to maintain the garden?
4. Gardening not your thing? Don’t worry we have more. We have also committed to developing a wildlife habitat in the Churchyard – so we need help building and positioning bird and bat boxes.
So basically we need you – all of you! Please get in touch to offer your services a.s.a.p through our Contact Page
